No renal dysfunction or salt and water retention in acute mountain sickness at 4,559 m among young resting males after passive ascent

نویسندگان

چکیده

Kidney function remained essentially unaffected and acute mountain sickness (AMS) was not associated with salt water retention in healthy young men flown to resting at the Margherita hut (4,559 m) under strictly controlled conditions maintaining water, salt, food intake pre-exposure levels. Thus, renal dysfunction fluid are essential factors contributing pathophysiology of AMS.

Age as a risk factor for acute mountain sickness upon rapid ascent to 3,700 m among young adult Chinese men

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between age and acute mountain sickness (AMS) when subjects are exposed suddenly to high altitude. METHODS A total of 856 young adult men were recruited. Before and after acute altitude exposure, the Athens Insomnia Scale score (AISS) was used to evaluate the subjective sleep quality of subjects. AMS was assessed using the Lake ...

Heart rate variability changes at 2400 m altitude predicts acute mountain sickness on further ascent at 3000–4300 m altitudes

OBJECTIVE If the body fails to acclimatize at high altitude, acute mountain sickness (AMS) may result. For the early detection of AMS, changes in cardiac autonomic function measured by heart rate variability (HRV) may be more sensitive than clinical symptoms alone. The purpose of this study was to ascertain if the changes in HRV during ascent are related to AMS. METHODS We followed Lake Louis...

Intermittent altitude exposures reduce acute mountain sickness at 4300 m.

Acute mountain sickness (AMS) commonly occurs at altitudes exceeding 2000-2500 m and usually resolves after acclimatization induced by a few days of chronic residence at the same altitude. Increased ventilation and diuresis may contribute to the reduction in AMS with altitude acclimatization. The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of intermittent altitude exposures (IAE), in co...

characteristics of headache at altitude among trekkers; a comparison between acute mountain sickness and non-acute mountain sickness headache

purpose headache at altitudes has had an incidence of 25-62% through many related studies. many reasons are identified concerning headache at altitudes such as acute mountain sickness (ams), sinus headache, migraine, tension type headache, and frontal tension headache. this study tried to compare different types of headache among trekkers on mount damavand, a 5671m mountain, iran, to find their...

Predictive models of acute mountain sickness after rapid ascent to various altitudes.

PURPOSE Despite decades of research, no predictive models of acute mountain sickness (AMS) exist, which identify the time course of AMS severity and prevalence following rapid ascent to various altitudes. METHODS Using general linear and logistic mixed models and a comprehensive database, we analyzed 1292 AMS cerebral factor scores in 308 unacclimatized men and women who spent between 4 and 4...
